Clairsy decided to keep it close to home for our Classic Countdown this afternoon – with all of the artists in the countdown having some sort of a connection to our wonderful State of Western Australia!
- No. 10: Eurogliders – Can’t Wait To See You
- The late Bernie Lynch was a WA boy who formed several Perth bands – like “The Stockings” – in the late 70’s – before meeting Grace Knight (who’d moved here from the UK) to form Eurogliders in 1980.
- No. 9: Supernaut – I Like It Both Ways
- Started out as a band called “Moby Dick” playing Perth pubs in the 70’s, before teaming up with Molly Medrum who produced their big national hit!
- No. 8: Baby Animals – Painless
- Singer Suze DeMarchi is a Perth girl, raised in Karrinyup, went to Newman College. Used to be in a band with Mark Lizotte aka Diesel, before they both got famous in their own right!
- No. 7: Dave Warner – Suburban Boy
- He’s a Perth Suburban Boy! Born in Bicton, went to Aquinas College and UWA. He’s also a screenwriter and author!
- No. 6: Diesel – Tip Of My Tongue
- Although born in the US, Diesel (Mark Lizotte) moved to Perth by his teenage years, went to Scarborough High, and first got major attention with Perth band Innocent Bystanders before forming Johnny Diesel and the Injectors” in 1986.
- No. 5: 1927 – That’s When I Think Of You
- Frontman Erik Weideman now lives in the Perth Hills! Hi Erik! Hope you enjoyed the show!
- No. 4: Christie Allen – Goose Bumps
- Christie was born in the UK, but her family moved to Perth when she was only 11. She sung in several bands before having two top 10 solo hits, and was voted the ‘Most Popular Female Performer’ at the TV Week / Countdown Music Awards for 1979 and 1980!
- No. 3: Hoodoo Gurus – What’s My Scene
- Frontman Dave Faulkner was raised in the Belmont area and went to Trinity College. He fronted some legendary Perth punk bands like The Victims and The Manikins, before moving to Sydney to start what later became “The Hoodoo’s” (as we affectionately call them!)
- No. 2: INXS – Never Tear Us Apart
- They formed “over east” – but they cut their rock n roll teeth right here in Perth, as The Farris Brothers! When Tim and Andrew Farris’s parents moved to Perth in 1978, the whole band followed!! If you’re the right vintage, you might’ve seen them playing in pubs like The Raffles back in the day!
- No. 1: AC/DC – Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
- Do we really need to say any more than: BON SCOTT!!!! Bon’s family moved to WA in 1956, and of course the legend still graces us (in statue form!) in Fremantle. Shout out to The Fremantle Scots Pipe Band – the band in which he REALLY got his musical start!!
